BBCNews- French march for Betancourt
envoyé par agirpouringrid
More videos, articles and photos to be posted here soon on this historic march in support of Ingrid Betancourt and all the hostages held in Colombia.
In Paris, police figures (which were then repeated by various media) stated that 5,000 people were present - one can only assume they guessed or counted way before the march set off, as the mass of marchers that filled the route solidly from the Assemblée Nationale (French Parliament), along the banks of the River Seine and over the bridge to the Louvre clearly showed that there were more like 25,000 to 30,000 people - luckily the lack of police officers was not noticable on this peaceful yet determined public expression of support and call for freedom for the hostages. Another 10,000 people marched across France in various cities.
This was a clear demonstration of the general public's concern and support concerning the situation, and hopefully those with influence shall take note of the opinion of people from all walks of life.
