Lorenzo - Message to his mother & the other hostages

Lorenzo Delloye-Betancourt is now 19 years-old (March 2008 – he was 13 years-old when his mother was kidnapped); studies & lives in Paris, France. He is very engaged in the efforts to liberate his mother, as is his elder sister Mélanie. This radio message was recorded on the 7th December 2007 & aired on RFI (Radio France Internationale.

“My darling little Mummy, my Heart…. First, I would like to say to you that I love you with all my soul. Words are not enough for me to tell you how much I love you. I have grown to realise, with the passing of time – the years that pass far from your love; the degree to which you are an incredible mother and woman. I want you to know, I want you to be certain; that not a single day of your captivity has passed that I have not thought of you. My little Mummy, now I am studying at the Sorbonne [university in Paris]. Well, almost, due to the strikes. Don’t be surprised (?), I’m continuing to play the guitar – it fascinates me. I must measure now, without cheating, 1 metre 78 [about 5 foot 84 inches in height]. You are right about my height, I have never been very tall – I am the same height as Dad.

The truth, my little Mummy, is that I don’t know where to begin. I have so much to tell you! Too much, in fact. During the Summer holidays, I went to Corsica [French island in the Mediterranean], and I went on a long trek with a friend. It was fantastic – the people were very nice – even though they blew their tops when we slept in their gardens without asking first…. I’ve also recorded four songs with a band - well, ex-band now! They’re good quality, we recorded them in a real studio; you wouldn’t believe the sound – it’s like on a record!

The more I tell you about my life - and don’t worry, there’s lots to tell; even if it’s a bit disorderly – the more I realise I need you, that you’re an awesome mother; the best of all, the one I love with all my heart.

Anyway, I continue:
I am studying Economics & Law – it’s so hard! Much harder than I thought! I have to study a great deal…. Well, the good news (even though studying here is already good news), is that I’m living in the apartment that you love so - I hope that you remember…? Student life is great!

Mummy, you want to see me live… I want you to live. I want you to eat the best you can and that you have the desire to live. Mummy, I’ll send you messages Monday, Wednesday, and Friday by RFI – and also on other days, if I can, through RCN and Radio Caracol. I hope with all my heart that my voice might help you…. My soul is with you…. I miss you too much.

I love you,

Your Loli.

Erm…
I would also like to take this opportunity to send a message to all the hostages:
Don’t think for a single second that we won’t free you all. This combat is to get you all out of there. We know that there is real urgency. President Sarkozy [of France] has addressed a message to my mother and to you all. He has engaged himself to getting you out of there. This is also the first time that all this is taking such an international dimension. All that to say that we are going to get you out of there…. All that to say that the world will not let you down…. Be strong. I send you all, until my next message – a greeting full of hope….”
