envoyé par disneydream
Mélanie Delloye-Betancourt is now 22 years-old (March 2008 – she was 15 years-old when her mother was kidnapped) and is Ingrid’s eldest child. She is very engaged in the efforts to liberate her mother, as is her younger brother Lorenzo. This radio message was recorded in December 2007 (shortly before the candle-lit vigil held for Ingrid on the 22rd of December 2007).
"I wanted to say to Mum that… well, that first of all I am holding her close to my heart… that I love her… that she has to continue to be strong… that my brother and I need her… that in view of the news of the [future] liberation by the FARC of Clara Rojas, her son Emmanuel* & Consuelo [Gonzalez] Perdomo; that we here take that as very good news, a strong gesture on behalf of the FARC which we greet – and today we are waiting for a gesture on the part of the Colombian President Alvaro Uribe. We are really waiting from him that he, too, be prepared to take a step forward – so that the negotiations between his government and the FARC begin as quickly as possible, so that Mum and all the other hostages in the jungle; find their freedom as soon as possible."
*Emmanuel (Clara Rojas’ son), was subsequently found to have been placed in an orphanage by the FARC a while back and was reunited with his mother following her release in January 2008.
